Keeping pace
with demand
A computing power upgrade supports aggressive growth.
Corporate goes upscale—and outdoors.
When L.L.Bean’s global e-commerce eclipsed traditional catalog orders and phone center operations, the outdoor retailer needed a computing power upgrade to keep pace with demand.

HED’s design study developed building concepts and proposed reliable mechanical and electrical systems to support the company’s aggressive growth plans. Following the study, we provided full design and construction administration services to bring L.L.Bean’s vision to life.

The new LEED Silver data center integrates cutting-edge technology with traditional architectural details that align with L.L.Bean’s brand. Located on a wooded greenfield site, the two-story 18,000 square foot structure is clad in locally-harvested cedar shingles.

The ground floor contains MEP infrastructure, loading, storage and workplace amenities. The second floor features a raised floor containing the network operations center, strategy room, and access protected computer room.
