Barrington Pope Speaks on the Ecology of BIM
On 3/20-21/2019 HED Associate Barrington “Bear” Pope, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, will be teaching a class at Midwest University entitled, “Ecology of BIM: Championing BIM to Advance Sustainable Policy.”

Midwest University is a conference that emphasizes the value of design technology, Revit, and software in the Architecture, Engineering and Design professions.

Bear will be presenting a live demonstration to other industry professionals that will cover using BIM to influence, advance, and support sustainable policy and awareness. Topics discussed will include; leveraging Insight360 to gain early design feedback and assist AIA 2030 reporting, using BIM to document and inform sustainable rating systems, as well as reinforcing office sustainable goals though BIM implementation.

Key takeaways will include the potential for firm wide buy in, understanding, and progress to energy reduction goals, and how BIM can be used to improve, report, and streamline documentation for sustainable rating systems.

“By the end of the lecture, attendees will understand Sustainable Initiatives like the AIA's 2030 Commitment, State and National Energy codes, and Sustainable rating systems, and understand how tools like insight 360 can be used to understand, influence, and reduce building energy usage [pEUI],” says Bear, “Increasingly, National, State, and Local energy codes are requiring increased energy use reductions. By using early design models to help inform and analyze a building's predictive energy usage, multi-discipline collaboration and goal setting can help achieve reduced energy usage.”
