Bridging the gap.
This irregular shaped site resulted in neighborhood enhancing and wildlife preserving solutions.
Providing a link.
Catholic Charities pursued several funding applications for this irregular shaped site prior to receiving separate awards for two buildings of 43-units each joined by a one-story building link. When both applications were funded simultaneously the challenge presented was to combine the two buildings into one structure while maintaining the proposed 4-story height, and combining the parking into one lot, while still providing outdoor space for the seniors, and storm water detention.
The Porta Coeli Senior Residence enhances the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood and the quality of life for senior residents in the surrounding area. A sensitive approach was taken in preserving the large existing trees which line the west perimeter of the site providing natural screening to the surrounding residential neighborhood. Combining the two buildings presented the opportunity to centrally locate the elevator lobbies offset of the two wings.
