Where quality of life is at the heart of it all.
Leading the industry in cardiovascular care.
With heart failure as the top reason for the hospitalization of people 65 and older, the disease can lead to frequent hospitalization and can greatly undermine patients’ quality of life. Heart Failure Clinics are not yet common around the U.S. with only a handful built to-date. Beaumont Hospital has been a longtime leader in cardiovascular care and developed this center as an industry leader to improve patient quality of life and further research into better approaches specific to congestive heart failure.

The new Ernst Heart Failure Clinic combines outpatient services for heart patients into one specialized clinic at the facility, making prompt cardiac care easier to access and more efficient for patients returning on a regular basis.

Throughout the design process, HED paid specific planning attention to the integration of the new space into the existing campus’ environmental context. Designed with its own unique entry and in close proximity to parking for those patients experiencing difficulties in walking, careful thought was given to wayfinding and signage to help separate the unit visually on arrival. A glass façade wraps the new addition creating a recognizable element that pours natural light into the patient care spaces.

Results
This new addition consolidates cardiac care into one convenient and comprehensive facility that helps to alleviate the physical and emotional stressors facing cardiac patients.
The completed project added 12 patient care rooms, echocardiogram room, vascular room, stress testing room, and two treatment rooms designed for outpatient medication infusion services.
The Max & Debra Ernst Heart Failure Clinic is designed to treat 100 patient visitors per day.
By locating the new center near to the hospital pharmacy, patients are able to easily access and fill their prescriptions.
This new unit will help cardiac patients by reducing emergency room visits and hospital stays
A lot of these patients are quite ill and quite elderly and have difficulty navigating through the hospital … By having them in a comprehensive area, we'll be able to treat these outpatients very, very efficiently and make it easier ... (And) by taking better care of these patients ... we'll prevent readmission and lower costs.”
