Reseach excellence.
A gateway to advanced learning.
At the forefront of medical research
HED led the rehabilitation of the University of Cincinnati's existing Medical Sciences Building, (MSB) in collaboration with STUDIOS Architecture. The multi-phased project replaces the older building components and creates a new state-of-the-art learning and research center for the Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
As part of this project, the MSB received a sizable new addition dubbed C.A.R.E. (Center for Academic Research Excellence). Connected to the MSB via a grand glass atrium, the C.A.R.E. building houses some of the most technically advanced laboratory research and teaching space seen in the Midwest. With its dramatic design, the C.A.R.E. building also serves as a distinguished, signature structure, a highly visible “front door” and gateway to the University’s prominent scientific corridor.
The addition is certified LEED Gold and the renovation is certified LEED Silver. The project was the Winner of the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, American Architecture Award.
